Sealcoating cost
Sealcoating is the one paving price where the low quote is usually explainable, and the explanation is almost always the same: a thinner product, one coat instead of two, or crack work left out.
Four variables
Area sets the baseline and everything interesting happens after that. The same surface can be quoted very differently depending on three decisions that are rarely written on the piece of paper you are comparing.
The first is the product and how much it is thinned. A heavily diluted sealer covers more ground per drum, which lowers the material cost and shortens the life of the finish at the same time.
The second is coat count and the third is whether cracks are included. What is in the drum and how many passes it gets are the specification, crack sealing is separate work, and preparation is where a quote is either honest or quietly thin.
Reading a quote
Confirm both quotes cover the same surface, including the apron and any path. A smaller measured area is the quietest way for a total to come out lower.
Both are legitimate questions and the answers explain most price gaps. A quote that will not name a product is describing a drum rather than a specification.
One coat suits a sound surface and two suits a porous one. Paying for two where one is enough is waste; getting one where two is needed looks patchy.
If cracks are not a separate line they are probably not in the price, and sealer poured across an open crack sinks in and reopens within the season.
Spending it well
Interval does more for the money than product choice. Coating on a sensible cycle protects a surface; coating every year builds a layer thick enough to crack and flake, which costs more and looks worse.
Preparation is the other place value hides. A premium sealer over an unscrubbed surface fails sooner than a basic one applied properly, so the hours before the coat matter more than the drum does.
And sealing a surface that is past it is money gone. A surface that has broken into connected pieces needs more than a coat, the right interval is what the spend is really buying, and a planned cycle costs less across a decade than reacting does.

Sealcoating priced per square foot with the crack filling listed separately. No surprise when the cracks took an extra hour.
They told me a driveway sealed last year did not need it again and to call back next spring. Hard to find that honesty.
Two coats quoted, two coats applied, and the price was what the website said.
The quote explained the difference between the two sealer types and let me choose. I went with the cheaper one on their advice.

We will measure the surface and quote with the product, the dilution and the coat count written on it, and crack work priced as its own line.
If the surface is past coating, we will tell you instead of quoting it.
