Paving costs
These are planning ranges, not quotes. Asphalt price moves with oil, and two surfaces of the same size can be far apart because of what is underneath them. The pages here explain which differences actually change the number.
Reading a quote
Two quotes for the same driveway are only comparable if both say the compacted depth and whether the base is being rebuilt. A single total hides the difference between a resurface and a rebuild, and that is the difference that matters.
The cheaper answer is often the smaller job. Where the base is sound, repair or resurfacing does the same visible work for a fraction of replacement, and a contractor who does not raise that is quoting for themselves.
Lots are a different calculation again, priced from the loads they carry rather than the square footage, which is why a lot and a driveway of equal area are not equal money.
How pricing works
Measured on site rather than from a map, because aprons, flares and the turn at the garage add area that satellite images flatten out.
Soft spots and drainage are checked, because base work is the line that most often separates two quotes that look similar at the bottom.
Removal, base, depth, area and disposal each get their own figure, so the quote can be compared line against line rather than total against total.
The written version is the one that counts. Anything agreed verbally on site is added to it before work is booked rather than remembered afterwards.
Cost pages
Five pages of planning ranges and the reasoning behind them.
What a residential drive runs to, how depth changes it, and why the base line is the one that separates two quotes that look alike.
Learn morePriced by area, with crack sealing quoted separately. The smallest figure on this page and the one that most often delays a larger bill.

Learn moreCommon questions
Every price on their site had a range and a reason. The quote I received sat inside the range for exactly the reason given.
I compared four companies. Theirs was the only quote where I could see the depth, the base and the square footage written out.
They told me a repair was cheaper than the replacement another company pushed, and then did the repair.
The cost guide is why I called. What they charged lined up with it.

A site visit turns the ranges on these pages into a figure for your surface, with the depth, the base work and the disposal shown as separate lines.
Figures on this site are planning ranges for Edmonton and area, not quotes.
