Asphalt paving
We lay new asphalt, resurface what is still sound, and repair the parts that are not. Every job starts with a look at the base and the drainage, because that is what decides how long the surface lasts, not the thickness of the top layer.
What we do
Four kinds of work, and the honest answer about which one a surface needs is often the cheaper one.
Removing the old surface, rebuilding the base where it has failed, and laying hot mix in compacted passes. Most residential drives are finished the same day.
Learn moreLots carry loaded trucks, so the base depth and the drainage matter more than on a driveway. We stage the work so part of the lot stays open where that is possible.
Learn morePotholes, cracks, sunken sections and broken edges. We quote what the surface needs rather than a package, and say plainly when a repair will not hold.
Learn moreA sealer slows oxidation and keeps water out of the top layer. It is maintenance, not a repair, and it will not hide a surface that has already broken up.
Learn moreStall layout, accessible spaces, arrows and numbers. Fresh paint after sealcoating is the point at which a lot stops looking neglected.
Learn moreCondo boards, plazas, warehouses and schools. Work is scheduled around trading hours and quoted so it can be put in front of a board or a budget.
Learn moreWhere driveways fail
A driveway that has broken up did not wear out on the surface. Water found a way under it, the base moved, and the asphalt above it lost its support. That is why a thick new top layer over a soft base buys a season or two and then opens again in the same places.
The pattern tells you which it is. Separate lines that run with the slope are shrinkage and movement, and crack filling keeps water out of them. A patch of small interlocking pieces is the base failing, and that section needs cutting out and rebuilding.
Water is the common cause in both. If rain stands on the surface instead of running off, the slope or the base has settled, and the drainage has to be fixed first. Sealing over a pond just gives you a sealed pond. The same logic decides whether to repair or replace.
How a job runs
We measure the area, check the slope and look at where water goes. If the base is the problem, you hear that at this visit rather than after the work starts.
Area, depth, base work and disposal are listed separately. That way a change to one of them is a visible change to the price rather than a surprise.
The old surface comes out, the granular base is graded and compacted, and soft spots are dug out and replaced before anything is laid over them.
Asphalt is laid while it is hot and rolled in passes. Edges are compacted by hand where a roller cannot reach, because edges are where failure usually starts.
What a quote covers
Two driveways of the same size can be a long way apart in price, and the reason is almost always underneath. A surface that only needs the top layer removed and replaced is a different job from one where the base has to be dug out, and the quote should say which it is.
Depth matters for the same reason. A residential driveway and a lot that takes delivery trucks are not built the same way, so lot pricing is worked from the loads it carries rather than from the square footage alone.
Access changes it too. A machine that can reach the whole area works faster than one that cannot, and hand work around steps, posts and tight corners takes time that has to be in the number.
Where the surface is still sound, resurfacing costs a fraction of replacement because the base stays where it is. It is the cheaper answer often enough that it is worth asking about before agreeing to a full rebuild.
Common questions
The six that come up on almost every site visit.
They cored the old driveway, found the base had failed, and quoted a replacement with the depth written down. The driveway has been through two winters without a crack.
Crack sealing and a sealcoat instead of the replacement another company pushed. Three years on, the driveway is fine.
Paving day went exactly as described: out by nine, down by three, driving on it in three days.
Quote was a range with reasons, the invoice sat inside it, and the crew swept the street before leaving.

Driveway Paving
The apron cracks first because the base under it was never compacted properly. This is not a surface problem. It is a foundation problem, and it decides whether resurfacing will hold.

Asphalt Repair
Every April, Edmonton's potholes reappear. They did not form overnight. They started as open cracks the previous fall, filled with water, and shattered when the freeze-thaw cycle began. The repair you avoid in October becomes the pothole you cannot avoid in spring.

Sealcoating
The autumn window for sealcoating closes fast in Edmonton. A sealed surface resists salt damage and plough wear on edges. Here's when to act and what changes if you wait.

A site visit takes about twenty minutes. You get the area, the depth, the base work and the disposal listed separately, so you can compare it against anything else you have been quoted.
